Policies and procedures are designed to influence and determine decisions, actions, and activities that take place within the boundaries of a program. Procedures are the specific methods employed to express policies in action in day-to-day operations of the organization. Together, policies and procedures ensure that a point of view held by the program is translated into steps that result in an outcome desired by the program and institution/agency.  Learn how to create policy and procedures that make sense for your program.

Generation Z are individuals born between the years of 1996 and 2010. Incoming students and many current high school and college students are Gen-Zers who have different life experiences, views, and expectations than other cohorts. They are the most racially and ethnically diverse generation ever, and they are also digital natives. As a result of COVID-19, TRIO professionals have increased online and virtual engagement to form deeper connections with students. This session will seek to understand how to approach, engage and collaborate with Gen Z by seeing the world from their perspective. Learn from leading research and authentic input from TRIO professionals how to develop virtual engagement strategies that will inspire students to learn.

Even before the pandemic struck, a significant portion—more than one quarter--of children and adolescents were experiencing a significant trauma by adulthood. While many children may return to previous levels of functioning following a traumatic event, the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and/or behavioral problems is common. Exposure to trauma and mental health symptoms that ensue can adversely affect school engagement and performance.  Learn from social service agency workers how to develop effective strategies in the COVID-19 age for creating an environment that is supportive of students even when you are connected only virtually. Learn to recognize how trauma affects adults who work with students exposed to trauma and develop a self-care plan to prevent and reduce stress in your own lives.
